Remove login banner from Ubuntu

Ubuntu Linux (14.04 LTS) shows message of the day (motd) banner every time you log in with SSH. In some cases it displays outdated and misleading information. In my case it displayed a wrong disk size. This confused the hell out of me as I thought I had lost some large important files. To avoid similar surprise in the future, I decided to remove the banner.

To do it, edit the file /etc/pam.d/sshd and remove every line referring to motd. Linux motd infrastructure seems to be quite complex anyway and I do not see how it benefits most users.

MOTD was useful when there were dozens of people using a single computer. Agree, these days it's one more example of unix cruft.
