Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 review
I had plans to buy a tablet for a long time. My main use case for a tablet is reading ebooks. This means the following important requirements:
- Large screen so that eyes can be focused further away (focusing too close when reading normal books is why I have glasses now).
- Good font rendering - screen with high DPI.
- No DRM/compatibility issues with PDF files.
And requirements that are not very important:
- Ruggedness - I already have an S3 in a Griffin Survivor case to have a mobile device outside.
- Battery life - I usually read ebooks at home and have wall power available.
- Weight - not taking the device with me when running or cycling.
The important requirements were satisfied by the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 10 inch screen tablet offered by a local ONOFF store for 245 EUR. I first selected it by reviews I found on the Internet. I had considered some other tablets as well but the screen comparison at the store's tablet booth made the decision. The screen quality was comparable to much more expensive iPads. Non-full-hd screens showed considerable worse font rendering.
The default background image for the locked device is chosen a bit unfortunately. The image edges are blurred and darkened and unless you unlock the screen and inspect some other graphics, it might seem that the screen is bad. I first had this impression in another store where the device's screen could not be unlocked (it required a PIN code). This scares away possible buyers from the excellent device.
Issues
I have had the tablet for a week now and the only issue I have with it is that the charging USB port is reversed. The USB logo on the plug should face upwards when plugged into the port. This is not a functional issue but still a bit annoying when most of the other devices get it right (my laptop and phone have them correctly):
Other than that, it's a really good tablet.
